In 1883, Rev. Joshua and Elizabeth Walters felt the call to hold a Church of God camp meeting on their farm just outside of St. Louis, Michigan. It was announced in the Gospel Trumpet, a publication by the Church of God, Anderson, IN, and people from all over Michigan gathered at the Walters' farm to join in the week-long activities. Families brought cows, chickens, goats, and home-canned fruits and vegetables to help feed the people who gathered at the Walters' farm.

Two acres of farmland was used each year for this purpose, until in 1893, it was leased solely for camp meeting. This became known as the St. Louis Camp Meeting of the Church of God.

In the years since 1893, new buildings have been added, the camp has expanded in acreage, and multiple other improvements have been completed to make the St. Louis Campground what it is today.

The St. Louis campground is open to the public, even during the first week of August, when we still honor the tradition that is the St. Louis Camp Meeting of the Church of God. All are welcome to camp with us during this week and to join in the activities. Click on the link above to learn more about Camp Meeting, or call (989) 681-2581.

During the weekends of Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, you'll see and hear people celebrating their time together with games, music and laughter. The St. Louis Campground is a great place to make your home base for these holiday weekends, especially during Memorial Day weekend for the Alma Highland Festival, which is only a few miles away at the campus of Alma College. In July, you can visit the Gratiot and Isabella County Fairs, and enjoy watching fireworks from both right from the comfort of the campground!

The St. Louis Campground offers 120+ campsites with both water and electric hookups. We offer rustic cabins for rent, along with dorms and a duplex. The duplex is fully furnished with a full kitchen, private bath, and linens provided. There are two large bath houses on the campground, one on each end, both equipped with showers, toilets, handicap facilities and a family shower/bathroom. We offer three pavilions for outdoor gatherings, a multipurpose building for indoor gatherings, and two large tabernacles that are great for weddings, parties, or church gatherings. We also have a picturesque prayer garden with an adjacent gazebo which is an idyllic setting for small weddings.
